Sammy Matsaw is a 2nd year PhD student at the University of Idaho in Water Resources as an IGERT fellow (Integrative Graduate Education, and Research Traineeship). On his father’s side he is Shoshone-Bannock where he is a member, and on mother’s he is Oglala Lakota. His research at the University connects culture with ecology by highlighting the connections between salmon, humans, and native freshwater mussels within the greater biological stream communities of the Pacific Northwest.
